Response to Piece 1
Summary of first impressions:
I thought it was nice and peaceful to start with. It was a boy solo artist and I liked the sound of his voice, it was quite gritty, which adds emotion.
I was confused by the tempo because at first I thought it didn't match the lyrics as they are hard to understand but when the drums come in the speed makes sense.
When the beat comes in, the song really builds and I like the change when the drums are added, it makes the structure interesting and builds the song.
Why I like the piece...
In my personal opinion I liked the start but then I disliked the end because it all the layers drop out and I think a sudden finish would have been better. Also, I liked the piece of music because it is different to the songs (Artists/Bands) that I listen to but I change what I listen to like every month like I like one direction but I also like 5 Seconds of Summer. But I also like OneRepublic. See I like different types of music. I think it starts quite sad with less instruments and the lyrics but when the beat comes in it feels more upbeat and the mood changes. I like that there are two guitars, both with very different sounds.
I personally liked the melody and the chorus as it goes higher and feels more emotional. More instruments are added which helps to build it up. The rhythm is not so clear at the start but then when the drums come in the rhythm helps keep the song going as the drum rhythm is quicker than the singing and fills in the gaps.
What I disliked about the piece.....
I personally liked most things but the lyrics were really annoying. The lyrics are really hard to understand and the meaning of the song is not clear because he uses lots of other references.
